Onyx 2012 Leadership Team

The Onyx Leadership Team is the new model for peer leadership replacing the traditional role of Captains.  The 2012 team represents qualities such as passion, dedication, talent, focus and character.

 

Michael Allen
Originally from Philadelphia, Michael lives in Pittsburgh where he teaches at Norwin HS, 2011 WGI Scholastic World Class Finalist. Michael holds a BS in Communication Media from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and works as a freelance designer. Michael performed multiple seasons with Jersey Surf Drum & Bugle Corps, IUP Marching Band and the Top Hats before joining Onyx.  Michael served as captain of both IUP and the Top Hats.  Passionate & respected, Michael brings immense energy to the floor and reliability behind the scenes and to the Onyx Leadership Team!

Kelly Mitchell
Kelly Mitchell from St. Louis, MO is currently the Guard Captain for the Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps. Kelly has performed numerous years with the Phantom Regiment including their 2008 DCI Championship Season, Spartacus! Kelly was a stand-out performer with Onyx 2011 and formerly with Capella Winter Guard. Kelly’s teaching experience includes Alton HS, Collinsville HS and Marquette HS where she currently instructs. Kelly attended Missouri State University in Biology and will graduate from St. Louis CC in 2012. A soloist and proven performance star with exceptional standards both on and off the floor, Kelly is an asset to Onyx and to the 2012 Leadership Team!

Brian Davis Brian Davis is often affectionately referred to as the Giant from Onyx 2010 “Sleeping Giant.”  Before Joining Onyx in 2009, Brian performed multiple seasons with Herndon HS and Act 1 from Virginia. Currently, Brian teaches at Northmont HS and works in customer service.  Brian has taught with Herndon HS, Harlan HS, Central HS, Mason County HS, Bourbon County HS (Bands of America A Class Champion), and the South Shore Drill team (2011 Independent A Class WGI World Champions). Brian will enter his fourth season with Onyx in 2012. Dedication, kindness and strength define Brian and Onyx is excited to have his loyalty and work ethic as part of the 2012 Leadership Team!

Karen “Mae” Wesolek Mae is originally from Bay City, Michigan, and now lives in Grand Rapids where she works at Pennock Health Services as a Primary Physical Therapist.  Mae Graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in with BS in Biology and a minor in Psychology and has a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Grand Valley State University. Mae’s performance experience includes Onyx 2011, Interplay World Winter Guard 2010 & 2007 and the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps 2006. Currently, she is the Caption Head for Grand Rapids Northview HS, and was Head of Instruction for Lowell High School and Interplay A Color Guard.  Focused, successful and driven, Mae’s guard and life experience will serve the Onyx Leadership Team well!
